The Congolese delegation was on a humanitarian mission focused on the situation of Congolese refugees hosted in Burundi. During the meeting, Minister Ève Bazaiba expressed, on behalf of the Congolese people and in her personal capacity, her deep gratitude and appreciation for the considerable efforts undertaken by the Government of #Burundi. She particularly commended Burundi’s call for national and international solidarity to assist Congolese refugees who have been living in distress since the onset of atrocities in eastern DRC.
Both parties shared views on strategies aimed at restoring peace and security in eastern DRC. They jointly called on partners to ensure the effective implementation of existing agreements and conventions, emphasizing that only a durable and sustainable solution would allow refugees to return safely to their homes. In this regard, they stressed the need for strong synergy between #Burundi, the #DRC, and international partners to achieve this common objective.
Ambassador Edouard Bizimana reassured the delegation of Burundi’s unwavering commitment to contributing to peace, security, and stability in the region. He further affirmed that the Government of Burundi will continue to stand both morally and materially alongside refugees facing difficult living conditions.
The Burundian Foreign Minister also highlighted the significant contributions already made by certain partners, notably the People’s Republic of China and Japan, in providing humanitarian assistance to Congolese refugees in various camps. Other partners, including the African Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Catholic Church of #Burundi, have also pledged support, demonstrating growing international solidarity with Congolese refugees hosted in Burundi.an ante.
