Burundi Strengthens Agro-Pastoral Data Systems Through a National Validation Workshop

From 5 to 7 January 2026, the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, through its Directorate of Environmental, Agricultural and Livestock Statistics and Information (DSIEAE), organized a workshop to validate administrative data from the agro-pastoral sector. The activity was carried out in partnership with the Project for the Intensification of Agricultural and Livestock Production in Burundi (PIPARV-B), with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the National Agro-Pastoral Information System and to improve the quality, reliability, and consistency of statistical data produced by the Ministry. Accurate and timely data are essential for informed decision-making, effective planning, and evidence-based policy formulation in the agro-pastoral sector.

Main objective

The main objective of the workshop was to collectively review, consolidate, and validate statistical data generated by various sectoral institutions, with a view to integrating them into national statistical yearbooks and other official dissemination platforms. Through a participatory approach, stakeholders worked together to harmonize methodologies and ensure coherence across data sources.

The workshop also provided a valuable platform for consultation and coordination, enabling participants to update reliable, clear, and easily understandable data. This process contributes to strengthening transparency, improving sectoral monitoring, and supporting sustainable development of agriculture and livestock in Burundi.
