On the evening of 7 February 2026, the city of Bujumbura welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, headed by H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria, and including leading figures from the Nigerian private sector, notably Mr. Aliko Dangote, Africa’s foremost industrialist.
The delegation arrived at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport at 20:15 (local time). They were received by H.E. Mr. Alain Ndikumana, Minister of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, together with H.E. Mr. Edouard Nduwimana, Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi to Nigeria.
This visit reflects Burundi’s continued efforts to advance economic diplomacy, attract strategic investment, and strengthen partnerships with key African economic actors, as highlighted by the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning.
The timing of the visit is particularly noteworthy, as it coincides with preparations for H.E. President Évariste Ndayishimiye to assume the Rotating Chairmanship of the African Union, ahead of the 39th Ordinary Summit of the African Union, scheduled for 14–15 February 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
All eyes now on Bujumbura as diplomacy, business and continental leadership converge.
