Under the auspices of His Excellency President Évariste Ndayishimiye, a Council of Ministers meeting was held at Ntare House to deliberate on key national issues of strategic importance.
Among the main items on the agenda was the review of the draft Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract for the design, financing, construction, and operation of the “Buja City Plaza” commercial complex. The project is planned on the site of the former Bujumbura Central Market, which was destroyed by fire in 2013.
The Buja City Plaza project is a flagship urban development initiative aimed at modernizing Bujumbura’s commercial infrastructure, boosting economic activity, and creating employment opportunities. Through the PPP framework, the Government seeks to leverage private sector expertise and investment while ensuring that the project aligns with national development priorities.
The Council examined the technical, financial, and legal aspects of the proposed contract, emphasizing the importance of transparency, sustainability, and mutual benefit for all stakeholders involved. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the project contributes to urban renewal, improved services, and increased revenue generation for the State.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting large-scale infrastructure projects that support economic growth and enhance the living standards of the Burundian population.
